Impact Review: NIRMALA Chellarams Centre for Entrepreneurship Skills “Meet-A-Mentor” (Mentor’s Day) Nationwide Event

Frankly, the impact of the Nirmala Chellarams mentoring, counseling and business advisory session tagged “Meet-A-Mentor” (Mentor’s Day) is still rolling in:

I got this from one of my mentees after a deep, robust chat, open and sincere conversation from Zainab O. Gbenle. I had told her I’d love to read and edit her story or experience as it were from the one-on-one engagement from each of her mentors for the day. She obliged.

One of her challenge was the lack of enthusiasm and all of the accompanied challenges you may think of when it comes to writing. This seem to be one of the reasons she’s on few social media platforms. I told her point blank: “If you want to be a good writer or improve on your writing, then you have to write. You must be interested and willing to write. Just write. The same is applicable to public speaking. As you write, you get better and better. You improve your writing skill by writing and writing daily and not by just wishing to write. Essentially, we improve by constant learning, research and practice. Simple.

So she sent me this piece and I was glad to edit for her:

About the “Meet-A-Mentor” Mentor’s Day Event

This last Monday’s experience cannot be soon forgotten. Yes, it was all about the Nirmala Chellarams' much anticipated event tagged “Meet-A-Mentor” Mentor’s day, where I was opportune to be mentored on career, business and/or entrepreneurship.

Sharing my experience with my first mentor, Amb. Regina Inem (Mrs), an Educationist, Executive Director at Regamous Consulting, and also an alumnus of my school, Lagos State University, (LASU), on career, I was able to grasp these salient points;

- Develop yourself to deliver.
- Always be on top of your game and take charge.
- And lastly, make a difference and impact in lives by creating value.

And to my second mentor on business and entrepreneurship, the multi-talented Mr. Samuel Adu, popularly called Mr. Exponent, a Serial and Social Entrepreneur, Reporter/Ghost Writer, Digital Business Trainer, Visual Communicator, Students Motivator and also an alumnus of my school LASU, in fact, we studied the same course! Wahoo! Cool, right? Yea, I actually saw myself in him and with that short not-enough-time of serious exchange, I was able to discover myself, my archetype!

Beyond the many nuggets of wisdom I picked from him, he left me with this 3 powerful quotes:
- Until you know yourself you can't discover yourself!
- The discovery of your purpose is the recovery of money in your bank account!
- And lastly, to be a STAR you have to START! Where “T” essentially is “Time”. Time and chance, if well managed, are two critical factors that guarantees our success and overall progress in life. Nothing is ever finished until it is first started now!

IT WAS INDEED AND EDUCATIVE AND INTERACTIVE SECTION THAT WORTH THE TIME.
Kudus to the organisers of this life changing experience.
